Local production and casting for Alfredo: The Movie extended the world of Alfredo 2, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist’s second collaborative album, into a cinematic form. The short film draws from the visual language of yakuza cinema and the solitary codes of Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Blending Tokyo’s underground atmosphere with a restrained, noir-toned aesthetic, the project expands the album’s narrative beyond music and served as the backbone for its release.
Shot in Japan, the film follows Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist as partners navigating a stylized criminal underworld. Directed by Nick Walker, with cinematography by Harley Astorga and local production and casting by Bianco Bianco, the project incorporates appearances from local figures, including Yoyo Tome as a yakuza member, as well as Tokyo’s rockabilly icons. The 14-minute film was released alongside the lead single “1995,” as a cinematic companion piece, and was first released in Los Angeles at the Brain Dead Studio. In addition to the short film, four performance music videos were simultaneously produced to distinguish the album release as one that takes on a balanced approach, both sonically and visually.
